House that does not live long
2026-2027
Installation, sound performance, biomaterials
Developed at APE Camp and APE LAB, Arts Council Korea (ARKO)

Nam June Paik wanted his art centre to be known as "the house where Nam June Paik lives on," a laboratory that keeps working after him. Our piece answers with a house that does not live long.

Paik destroyed a piano in a performance. This year marks twenty years since his death, and we take that act one step further: from violent destruction to natural extinction and circulation. We also answer an irony. The technological media Paik loved now outlive him as electronic waste.

House That Does Not Live Long is a piano made entirely of biomaterials, mould spores and mycelium. Over time it decomposes and returns completely to the earth. Sound is performed live in the room.

The work began in June 2026 at APE Camp, where Arts Council Korea brought artists, producers and engineers from several countries to Seoul.

The work opens in the Nam June Paik Art Centre in January 2027.
